Phoenix Urban Ecosystem

Millions of people nestled between the saguaro. A patchwork of desert turns into a quilt of watered lawns. Phoenix is an odd blip in an otherwise contiguous swath of dry, inhostpiable land. Coyotes, roadrunners, and the plants themselves take notice of their new habitat, and behave in new ways.

I visited this research site, where to understand the ecology, one must also understand the impacts humans have on the ecosystem. I shot photos of several differnet research sites, and wrote two stories about work at the Central Arizona Phoenix Long-Term Ecological Research site.

You can read my story, The Phoenix Area Social Survey Shows How People Drive Urban-Ecological Change at the link, or see the photos here. Or, read my other story on the visit, What is an urban ecosystem?
